Another phone Samsung note 4 (us cellular) seems to do the same thing but doesnt show the band its currently using.
cricket lg stylus 2 (att) phone jumps between band 4 and 2(which both dont provide data, but waste about 30seconds to switch back and forth) and finally switches to band 17 that actually works and gives service(3-5 bars lte).
At best it gives about 5 minutes of 80ping -77dbm of lte data. Inside 8ft around the antenna it jumps between 5 bars and 2 bars. I put mine 60ft above the house and ran the cables to a dead zone inside the house. In my area i get 1-2 bars of lte outside at ground level.
